                                                        ABOUT  BELLY DANCING

Belly dancing is an ancient art form, practiced in many Middle Eastern countries such as India, Egypt, Turkey, Greece, etc. Women of childbearing years used the dance to make the birth easier and also to recover after the birth. In ancient tribes, women would gather together dancing to help the mother with the moves that would make it easier for her to have a fast and healthy birth. Long after the children where born, it was used to keep the bones and joints of the women strong and flexible.

As we grow older, we tend to move certain parts of our body less.  The body just forgets how to move and stiffens. This can be very dangerous as we age and result in injuries.  Many ancient arts teach that repetitive, controlled   movement can free up joints and strengthen muscles and bones. In our fast paced society too many of us spend most of our time sitting or standing in one place. It is not natural.  However, the ancient art form of belly dancing is natural for women.

Just as with yoga, martial arts, and meditation, belly dancing is a disciplined  form of movement based on isolation and control.  But, it is more than that. It is fun and exciting to learn what your body will do if you give it a chance! The dance strengthens the qualities of poise, grace, stamina, and femininity.  It heightens your senses and awareness of yourself. It increases your balance,  trims your waistline, improves your posture.

Imagine how beautiful and sensuous you could be, swaying your hips and undulating your body with the grace of an exotic dancer. Remember when you were a teenager and dancing with your friends was one of the most pleasant ways to spend an evening.  Just think of how energizing it is to move as women were meant to move and how the body feels with the freedom. Well a belly dancing class can recapture that euphoria and help you lose weight and feel fit at the same time.
